The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says repair works have commenced on the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, which was partly damaged by a recent rainstorm in Abuja.
Wike disclosed this on Monday after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT, describing the incident as a natural occurrence beyond human control.
The terminal was affected on April 7 when a heavy rainstorm blew off sections of its roof, with debris reportedly scattered onto the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.
The minister expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, noting that the damage was limited to the roofing structure and did not affect the integrity of the building.
According to him, the terminal remains structurally sound, adding that repair works are already underway to restore the damaged sections.
“What happened was that strong winds removed parts of the roof, but the structure itself is intact and repairs have begun,” he said.
The Kugbo terminal is one of three modern bus and taxi terminals inaugurated in June 2025 to improve safety and convenience for commuters in the FCT.
Wike explained that although the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals had been completed, they were yet to commence operations due to pending approvals beyond the ministerial level.
He, however, confirmed that the Federal Executive Council has now approved their management under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement, paving the way for their imminent operation.
The terminals are part of ongoing efforts by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to modernise public transportation infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
